Bosun – MV Ocean Explorer – Worldwide Itinerary

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Bosun to join the crew of the MV Ocean Explorer, a research vessel operating on a worldwide itinerary. This is a permanent contract position with an immediate start date. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing deck operations, maintenance, and safety procedures, ensuring the vessel operates efficiently and in compliance with maritime regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Bosun or in a similar deck supervisory role on vessels over 50 metres in length.
  • Valid STCW certification (including Basic Safety Training, Proficiency in Survival Craft, and Advanced Firefighting).
  • Valid Seafarer’s Medical Certificate (ENG1 or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
  • Experience with research vessel operations is preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise deck crew in daily operations, including mooring, anchoring, and cargo handling.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair of deck equipment, rigging, and safety gear.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and conduct regular drills.
  • Assist the Deck Officer with navigation and watchkeeping duties as required.
  • Maintain inventory of deck supplies and tools.

Contract Details

  • Contract Type: Permanent
  • Duration: Ongoing
  • Start Date: Immediate
  • Salary: €3,500 per month, paid in Euros
  • Work Location: Worldwide itinerary, with ports of call including Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
