Bosun – MV Ocean Explorer – Worldwide Itinerary

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Bosun to join the crew of the MV Ocean Explorer, a 120-metre research vessel operated by Global Marine Services. This is a permanent contract position with an immediate start date of 15th October 2024. The role involves worldwide travel, including expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic regions, with a standard rotation of 4 months on / 2 months off.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Bosun on vessels over 80 metres.
  • Valid STCW certification, including Basic Safety Training and Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats.
  • ENG1 medical certificate or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
  • Experience with dynamic positioning systems and ice navigation is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise deck operations and maintenance, including rigging, painting, and cargo handling.
  • Manage a team of Deckhands and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Assist the Deck Officer with navigation and watchkeeping duties as required.
  • Oversee the upkeep of life-saving appliances and firefighting equipment.
  • Participate in emergency drills and respond to incidents promptly.

Salary and Benefits

Monthly salary of €4,500, paid in Euros, plus overtime at 1.5x rate. Benefits include comprehensive medical insurance, pension contributions, and paid annual leave of 30 days per year. Accommodation and meals are provided on board.
