Requirements
- Minimum 12 months in the rank of Second Engineer
- Good level of English
- Experience on the same type of vessel (crude oil tanker)
Responsibilities
According to STCW, typical Second Engineer functions include: supervision of the engine team, maintenance of propulsion and auxiliary systems, management of the engine room under the direction of the Chief Engineer, and compliance with tanker-specific safety procedures.

- Valid Certificate of Competency (CoC)
- Updated STCW documentation
- Specific tanker certificates (such as advanced firefighting training and loading/unloading operations)
