Bosun – MV Ocean Explorer – Worldwide Itinerary

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Bosun to join the crew of the MV Ocean Explorer, a 120-metre research vessel. This is a permanent contract position with an immediate start date. The vessel operates on a worldwide itinerary, including the Arctic and Antarctic regions, with rotations of 4 months on/2 months off. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading deck operations and maintenance under the supervision of the Chief Officer.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Bosun or similar role on vessels over 80 metres.
  • Valid STCW certification (including Basic Safety Training).
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
  • Experience with crane operations and cargo handling.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Medical fitness certificate valid for 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise deckhands and coordinate daily deck activities.
  • Maintain deck equipment, including ropes, winches, and safety gear.
  • Assist with mooring and anchoring operations.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Support scientific operations as required.

Salary and Benefits

Salary: €4,500 per month, paid in Euros. Benefits include accommodation, meals, medical insurance, and flight allowances for rotations.
