Bosun – MV Ocean Explorer – Worldwide Itinerary

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Bosun to join the crew of the MV Ocean Explorer, a 120-metre research vessel. This is a permanent contract position with an immediate start date. The vessel operates on a worldwide itinerary, including the Arctic, Antarctic, and Pacific regions. The successful candidate will lead deck operations and maintenance, reporting directly to the Chief Officer.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Bosun or in a similar deck leadership role on vessels over 80 metres.
  • Valid STCW certification, including Basic Safety Training, Proficiency in Survival Craft, and Advanced Firefighting.
  • Valid Seafarer’s Medical Certificate (ENG1 or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
  • Experience with crane operations, rigging, and anchor handling.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and remote locations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise deck crew in daily operations, including mooring, anchoring, and cargo handling.
  • Oversee maintenance of deck equipment, machinery, and safety gear.
  • Conduct safety drills and ensure compliance with maritime regulations.
  • Assist with navigation and watchkeeping duties as required.
  • Manage inventory of deck supplies and spare parts.

Contract Details

Contract type: Permanent, with a 4-month on/2-month off rotation. Salary: €4,500 per month, paid in Euros. Benefits include accommodation, meals, insurance, and flight allowances. Application deadline: 15 October 2024. Start date: 1 November 2024.
