Bosun – MV Ocean Explorer – Worldwide Itinerary

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Bosun to join the crew of the MV Ocean Explorer, a 120-metre research vessel. This is a permanent contract position with an immediate start date. The vessel operates on a worldwide itinerary, including the Arctic and Antarctic regions, with rotations of 4 months on/2 months off. The salary is €4,500 per month, paid in Euros, plus benefits including accommodation, meals, and travel expenses.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Bosun or in a similar deck leadership role on vessels over 80 metres.
  • Valid STCW certification (including Basic Safety Training, Proficiency in Survival Craft, and Advanced Firefighting).
  • Valid Seafarer’s Medical Certificate (ENG1 or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
  • Experience with crane operations and deck maintenance on research or offshore vessels.
  • Ability to lead a team of deckhands and coordinate with the Deck Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all deck operations, including maintenance, cargo handling, and safety equipment checks.
  • Supervise and train deckhands in daily tasks and emergency procedures.
  • Assist the Deck Officer with navigation and watchkeeping duties as required.
  • Ensure compliance with maritime safety regulations and company policies.
  • Manage inventory of deck supplies and equipment.
