Responsibilities
- According to STCW, typical Second Engineer responsibilities include: supervision of the engine department under the direction of the Chief Engineer, maintenance of propulsion and auxiliary systems, management of technical documentation, and compliance with safety and environmental standards (SOLAS/MARPOL). On AHTS vessels, this may involve maintenance of specific equipment such as cranes, towing systems, and deck machinery.
