The adoption of alternative fuels in the global maritime fleet is gaining momentum. According to the “Green Technology Tracker” report by Clarksons Research, half of the tonnage of new maritime vessel orders in 2024 could be using alternative fuels, different from traditional fossil fuels. - In 2024, there were 390 orders for ships capable of using LNG, 118 for methanol, 25 for ammonia, 72 for LPG, and 12 for hydrogen.

The Clarksons report also highlights a challenging landscape in terms of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Global maritime transportation emissions are estimated to have increased by 4%, surpassing pre-pandemic levels.
