The Second Engineer is responsible for the engine room watch and for supervising the maintenance of propulsion and auxiliary equipment, under the authority of the Chief Engineer. In accordance with the STCW Convention, the successful candidate must hold the appropriate certificate of competency and basic and advanced engine room training certificates.
