Full description

Grupo TRAGSA is offering 27 positions for university graduates to work as scientific observers on board Spanish longline fishing vessels operating in non-Spanish waters of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans. The main role is the collection of scientific data for monitoring fishing activities and assessing marine populations. Scientific observers will embark during fishing campaigns and will be responsible for recording information on catches, effort, discards and bycatches, following protocols established by fisheries authorities. A university degree is required, and previous experience in biological sampling or field work is desirable. The contract will be for a fixed term, typical for such scientific campaigns. According to fisheries regulations and STCW, observers must have basic maritime safety training and hold a medical certificate of fitness for embarkation. Working and salary conditions will be in accordance with the applicable collective agreement, including accommodation and meals on board.
