Essential requirements include previous experience in the rank of Chief Engineer and holding a valid US visa; if not, the company offers assistance with the application. The contract is for a fixed term, in line with standard merchant marine practice.
Under STCW III/2, the Chief Engineer heads the engine department, supervises watches and the maintenance of propulsion and auxiliary systems, and ensures compliance with the safety and pollution prevention regulations set out in SOLAS and MARPOL.
