Chief Ferry Engineer for Operations in Ocracoke – NCDOT Ferry Division
The NCDOT Ferry Division is looking for a Chief Ferry Engineer with experience to join their operations team in Ocracoke. The selected candidate will be responsible for supervising and coordinating teams in the operation and maintenance of propulsion systems, generators, deck machinery, electrical equipment, cooling systems, and sanitation equipment on ferries. In addition, they must ensure compliance with safety regulations and homeland security established by the US Coast Guard and the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Knowledge in operations, maintenance, and repair of marine diesel and gasoline engines, pumps, generators, and auxiliary equipment.
- Familiarity with state and federal laws and regulations, as well as with Coast Guard standards related to occupational hazards and safety precautions for work in the engine room.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise personnel in all areas of engine room operations.
- Valid US Coast Guard license as Chief Engineer or Designated Duty Engineer with the proper horsepower for the operated ferry.
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) issued by the Transportation Security Administration.
Additional Details:
- Work schedule of 7 consecutive working days followed by 7 days off.
- Salary: $41,655 – $72,897.
- A copy of the TWIC credential and Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) as Chief Engineer must be provided during the interview process.
