Bosun – MV Ocean Explorer – Worldwide Itinerary

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Bosun to join the crew of the MV Ocean Explorer, a 120-metre research vessel. This is a permanent contract position with an immediate start date. The vessel operates on a worldwide itinerary, including the Arctic and Antarctic regions, with rotations of 4 months on/2 months off. The salary is €3,500 per month, paid in Euros, plus benefits including accommodation, meals, and travel insurance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Bosun or in a similar deck leadership role on vessels over 80 metres.
  • Valid STCW certification (including basic safety training).
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and remote locations.
  • Experience with deck machinery, cargo operations, and safety equipment maintenance.
  • Clean criminal record and medical fitness certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise deck crew and coordinate daily deck operations.
  • Maintain deck equipment, including winches, cranes, and safety gear.
  • Assist with cargo handling and stowage during research expeditions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and conduct regular drills.
  • Support the Deck Officer in navigation and watchkeeping duties as required.
