Bosun – MV Ocean Explorer – Worldwide

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Bosun to join the crew of the MV Ocean Explorer, a research vessel operating on a worldwide itinerary. This is a permanent contract position with an immediate start date. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing deck operations, maintenance, and safety procedures, ensuring the vessel’s smooth functioning during its global voyages.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Bosun or in a similar deck supervisory role on vessels over 50 metres in length.
• Valid STCW certification (including Basic Safety Training, Proficiency in Survival Craft, and Advanced Firefighting).
• Valid Seafarer’s Medical Certificate (ENG1 or equivalent).
• Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
• Experience with research vessel operations and handling scientific equipment is preferred.
• Ability to work in a multicultural team environment and adapt to varying sea conditions.

Responsibilities

• Supervise deck crew in daily operations, including mooring, anchoring, and cargo handling.
• Maintain and inspect deck machinery, safety equipment, and hull structures.
• Assist the Deck Officer in navigation and watchkeeping duties as required.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and conduct regular safety drills.
• Coordinate maintenance schedules and report any defects or issues to the Chief Officer.
• Manage inventory of deck supplies and equipment.

Contract Details

• Salary: €3,500 per month, paid in Euros.
• Contract Type: Permanent, with a 4-month on/2-month off rotation.
• Start Date: Immediate, with applications accepted until 15 October 2023.
• Work Location: Worldwide itinerary, with ports of call including Antarctica, the Arctic, and various coastal regions.
• Accommodation and meals provided on board.
• Travel expenses to and from the vessel covered by the company.
