Description of the position and key functions: The NCDOT Ferry Division is looking for an experienced Marine Mechanic to join their team in Hatteras. The selected candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of diesel engines and other marine equipment on ferry vessels. Duties include diesel engine repair and overhaul, adjustment of reduction gears and clutches, replacement and alignment of propeller shafts, and repair of fire pumps, bilge pumps, and hydraulic pumps. The use of tools and machinery such as lathes, hydraulic presses, and reading of blueprints and metric conversions will also be required.

Requirements and qualifications: Operational knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines. Minimum of 3 years of experience in repairing engines, transmissions, and hydraulic, aerial, and electrical systems, preferably in the ship repair or shipbuilding industry. High school diploma or equivalent. Demonstrated ability to identify causes and repair procedures for faulty equipment.

Additional details: The position is based at the marine maintenance facilities in Hatteras. Normally working five days a week, with the possibility of night shifts that include a 10% salary bonus per shift. The job offer is subject to passing drug and fitness tests by NCDOT and the Ferry Division.
